Welcome to your Himalayan winter journey! After an early morning pickup from Shimla, begin your drive in a sturdy 4x4 SUV, perfectly equipped for snowy mountain terrain. Travel through breathtaking valleys, snow-draped pine forests, and charming Himachali villages. Arrive in the beautiful Sangla Valley, surrounded by the Baspa River and mighty Kinner Kailash peaks. If the weather permits, continue to Chitkul – the last inhabited village on the Indo-Tibet border. Overnight Stay: Chitkul / Sangla
Drive along the Sutlej and Spiti Rivers via Karcham and Pooh. Visit Nako Lake (if weather permits) en route. Arrive in Tabo – known for its 1000-year-old monastery. Overnight stay in Tabo.
En route visit Dhankar Monastery (one of the oldest in Spiti). Enjoy the view of confluence of Spiti and Pin Rivers. Evening arrival in Kaza – the heart of Spiti Valley. Overnight stay at hotel / homestay in Kaza.
After breakfast, start early for Pin Valley National Park (subject to snow clearance). Explore Mudh Village – the last village in Pin Valley (if open). In case Pin Valley road is closed, explore the Losar side, capturing majestic snow peaks and frozen waterfalls. Return to Kaza by evening. Dinner and overnight stay in Kaza.
Explore the famous high-altitude circuit of Spiti: Komic: World’s highest village connected by motorable road. Hikkim: World’s highest post office – send yourself a postcard! Langza: The fossil village with Buddha statue overlooking the valley. Return to Kaza for overnight stay
Drive back along the Spiti River, crossing Tabo and Pooh. Reach Kalpa by evening – enjoy sunset views over Mt. Kinner Kailash. Dinner and overnight stay in Kalpa.
Morning: After breakfast in Kalpa, begin your drive to Shimla, covering approximately 240 km in 8–9 hours. En route, enjoy lunch at a popular roadside restaurant near Rampur. By Air :
The nearest airport is Jubbarhatti Airport (Shimla), about 23 km from Shimla city. Alternatively, travelers can fly into Chandigarh Airport, which has better connectivity and is around 120 km from Shimla. From either airport, private cabs or buses can be hired to reach Shimla, the starting point of the circuit.
By Train :
The nearest major railway station is Kalka Railway Station, about 90 km from Shimla. From Kalka, the scenic Kalka–Shimla toy train is a popular and memorable ride. Taxis and buses are also available from Kalka to Shimla.
By Road :
Shimla is well connected by road to major North Indian cities like Delhi (approx. 350 km) and Chandigarh (approx. 120 km). Regular Himachal Road Transport buses, private Volvo services, and taxis operate on these routes. From Shimla, the journey continues through the circuit covering Sarahan, Sangla, Nako, Tabo, Kaza, and Kalpa before looping back.
