The trek from Ghuttu to Gaurikund, organized by Mountains Chain Travel Pvt. Ltd., is an exhilarating journey through some of the most remote and scenic parts of the Garhwal Himalayas. Starting from the riverside village of Ghuttu, the route progresses through the serene hamlets of Reeh and Gangi, immersing trekkers in the rich Garhwali culture and traditional mountain life. From Kharsoli, nestled at the confluence of Bhilan Ganga, the trail ascends through lush meadows and pristine valleys to Chowki and the glacial lake of Masar Tal, an isolated gem surrounded by towering peaks. The high point of the trek is the challenging and adventurous crossing of Mayali Pass (5300 m), offering panoramic views of majestic Himalayan summits like Mt. Thalay Sagar and Kedardome. Descending from the pass, trekkers reach the sacred Vasuki Tal, followed by the spiritual destination of Kedarnath, home to the revered Shiva temple. The journey concludes at Gaurikund, a place steeped in mythology and known for its natural hot water springs. This trek blends adventure, culture, and spirituality, making it a perfect expedition for seasoned trekkers looking for a diverse Himalayan experience.
The journey begins from Dehradun ISBT, where vehicles will be arranged to drive to Ghuttu — a scenic village on the banks of the Bhilangana River, a major tributary of the Bhagirathi and a source stream of the Ganga. Nestled at 1578 m, Ghuttu welcomes you after a drive of 8–9 hours. Overnight stay in tents.
The trek to Reeh starts gradually on a well-maintained path for the first two hours before entering a dense forest. Reeh is a serene village surrounded by natural beauty, where we pitch tents, enjoy warm meals, and retire for the night.
Today’s trail ascends steeply to Gangi — the last village on the trail, rich in Garhwali culture. En route, pass shepherd huts and the revered Bhawani Mata temple. Experience traditional wooden homes and local customs. Overnight stay in tents.
Bid farewell to Gangi and trek through scenic landscapes, including the picturesque Kalyani meadow, to Kharsoli — a beautiful campsite at the confluence of Bhilan Ganga. Enjoy a restful night in tents amidst nature.
Trek past meadows and forests to reach Tambakund near Khatling Glacier, before ascending to Chowki. From Chowki, enjoy stunning views of Mt. Thalay Sagar. Camp here and witness a breathtaking sunset over the Himalayas.
Ascend through rugged trails and boulder fields to Masar Tal (4950 m), a glacial lake surrounded by Himalayan peaks. Camp by this secluded alpine lake and prepare for colder conditions.
Rest and acclimatize to the high altitude. Enjoy the serenity and stark beauty of the Himalayan wilderness.
A challenging yet rewarding day — cross steep boulders and glaciers to reach Mayali Pass (5300 m). Celebrate the summit and descend to Vasuki Tal, a sacred lake linked to Lord Vishnu. Overnight stay in tents.
Trek towards Kedarnath, descending gradually. Arrive at the revered Kedarnath Temple, one of the Char Dhams. Hotel stay and hot meals arranged.
Descend to Gaurikund, known for its hot springs and mythological significance linked to Goddess Parvati (Gauri). Overnight stay in a hotel near Gaurikund.
