The Roopkund Trek, organized by Mountains Chain Travel Pvt. Ltd., is a captivating journey through some of Uttarakhand’s most stunning alpine landscapes, culminating at the mysterious Roopkund Lake, famed for its centuries-old human skeletons. Starting from the quaint village of Lohajung, the route winds through charming Himalayan hamlets like Didna Village and expansive high-altitude meadows of Ali Bugyal and Bedni Bugyal, offering panoramic views of towering peaks such as Trishul and Nanda Ghunti. As trekkers ascend higher, they pass through diverse terrain — lush forests, rolling grasslands, and rugged ridgelines — before reaching Bhagwa Basa and finally the glacial Roopkund Lake, with an optional climb to Junargali Pass for breathtaking vistas. The descent takes you through the culturally rich Wan Village, bringing the experience full circle. With a deep focus on safety, sustainability, and authentic local engagement, Mountains Chain Travel Pvt. Ltd. ensures trekkers enjoy a well-organized, immersive adventure that showcases both the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the Indian Himalayas.
Start your journey at 5 AM from Dehradun. Enjoy the scenic drive through lush green landscapes and, if the weather is pleasant, you’ll be greeted by misty clouds. Along the way, pass some of the well-known confluences. The winding roads of the valley will lead us to Lohajung by evening. Upon arrival, enjoy a hearty dinner and a brief introduction session to get to know your fellow trekkers.
Begin your trek from Lohajung to Didna Village, located at 8,200 feet, famous for its rich Garhwali culture. The trek takes around 5-6 hours, with a water stream at Ruan Bagad for refilling. Reach Didna by afternoon and settle into your campsite. Enjoy a warm dinner under the stars.
Start early and trek from Didna Village to Ali Bugyal - 10 KM, followed by a short 2 KM to Bedni Bugyal. This day is easier with a mostly flat trail through Oak, Rhododendron, and alpine meadows. Enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks and watch local cattle grazing in the meadows.
Trek to Pattar Nauchani - 5 KM, with an elevation gain that brings colder, windier conditions. Layer up with warm, windproof clothing. If the skies are clear, you may be treated to a starry night at your campsite.
After breakfast, continue your trek to Bhagwa Basa, passing the Kalu Vinayak Temple. The trail is gentle, but with a significant altitude gain, so take it slow. If the weather permits, enjoy stunning views of Mt. Trishul from the temple.
Start the day at 4 AM and trek to Roopkund, known for its mysterious skeletal remains. Continue to Junargali - 500 meters further, the highest point of the trek, offering panoramic views of Nanda Ghunti, Trishul, and other peaks. After soaking in the views, descend back to Pattar Nauchani for a well-deserved rest.
Begin your descent, retracing the path through Bedni Bugyal and enjoying the beautiful oak forests along the way. The final stretch leads you to Wan village, where you'll stay overnight in a hotel.
After a long trek, it's time to drive back from Wan to Dehradun, marking the end of your adventure. End of Trip.
