Your journey begins with an early morning drive from Shimla winding through the stunning Chanshal Valley. The scenic route takes you past the quaint town of Rohru along the Pabbar River offering changing landscapes of pine forests and mountain views. By late afternoon you reach Jiskun a serene village known for its organic apples and traditional wooden houses. After checking into your cozy homestay relax and soak in the calm Himalayan atmosphere as you prepare for the trek ahead.
After breakfast begin your trek with a descent through dense forest trails toward the village of Bawta. The path is lined with wooden houses bubbling streams and scenic Himalayan beauty. From Bawta the trail ascends steeply to reach Jakha the last inhabited village on the trek dramatically built into a hillside. Known as the Hanging Village Jakha provides a rare glimpse of high altitude mountain life. You will camp here for the night surrounded by majestic peaks.
Today's trek begins through farmlands and wooden homes before entering a cool shaded forest of deodar and fir trees. A descent brings you to Udaknal where you cross a snow bridge and a rustic wooden bridge over the Rupin River. The trail hugs the river passing waterfalls wildflowers and seasonal tea stalls. After climbing through rhododendron filled meadows of Buransh Kandi you reach Saruwas Thatch an expansive alpine meadow offering a tranquil camping experience amid incredible mountain vistas.
A short and scenic trek awaits as you walk through vibrant meadows filled with wildflowers to reach Dhanderas Thatch. This is one of the most beautiful campsites of the trek located at the base of a fifteen hundred foot Rupin Waterfall. You will be treated to breathtaking views of both the Upper and Lower Rupin Waterfalls cascading through the valley with the possibility of catching a rainbow in the mist. The day ends in peaceful surroundings with dinner and rest at this unforgettable location.
The trek continues with a gentle walk that quickly becomes a challenging ascent beside the thunderous Upper Rupin Waterfall. The narrow rocky trail demands caution but rewards you with sweeping views of the Dhanderas Thatch valley below. After a steady climb you arrive at Upper Waterfall Camp a spectacular high altitude site encircled by cliffs snow patches and a starry sky. The roar of the waterfall nearby adds a soothing rhythm to your night in the wild.
This is the most exhilarating day of the trek as you ascend to the mighty Rupin Pass the highest point of the journey. The steep trail winds through snow patches rocky terrain and the narrow Rupin Gully. Upon reaching the pass at around four thousand six hundred fifty meters you will be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the Dhauladhar and Kinnaur ranges. After soaking in the beauty begin the descent to Ronti Gad crossing rugged alpine slopes and snowfields. Camp at this peaceful meadow beneath the towering Kinnaur Kailash range.
The final leg of the trek takes you through the rolling grasslands of Sangla Kanda. As you descend the return of vegetation grazing sheep and shepherd huts mark your journey back to civilization. After reaching the picturesque town of Sangla in the Baspa Valley famous for its apple orchards and rich Kinnauri culture you will begin the scenic drive back to Shimla. The drive offers a perfect opportunity to reflect on the unforgettable experiences and landscapes that defined your Rupin Pass adventure.
